Rezension “Perfect Woman” von Andrea Bartz

Die New Yorkerinnen reißen sich um eine Mitgliedschaft bei The Herd, dem exklusiven Co-Working-Space für Frauen. Alle wollen sie so sein wie Eleanor Walsh, die schillernde das perfekte Thema für das neue Buchproject von Autorin Katie Bradley. Zum Glück gehört Katies Schwester Hana zum engsten Kreis von Eleanor. Doch dann verschwindet Eleanor eines Abends während einer Party. Könnte jemand ihr etwas angetan haben? Die Liste der Verdächtigen ist lang und Hana und Katie müssen bald feststellen, dass Eleanor nicht die Einzige war, die ein dunkles Geheimnis hütete.” (Klappentext)
Ich gebe zu, es war hauptsächlich das Cover, das mich zu diesem Buch lockte. Der Titel, “Perfect Woman” hat mir sofort Gone Girl vibes gegeben und wie ihr wahrscheinlich wisst, ist das eins meiner Lieblingsbücher.
Die Grundidee kam mir jetzt nicht weltbewegend neu vor, aber das muss ja auch nicht immer sein. Ein guter, entspannter Thriller hat auch was schönes.
Leider muss ich sagen, dass das auch schon so in etwa die einzigen guten Dinge waren, die ich über diesen Thriller sagen konnte.
Die Story lief am Anfang sehr schleppend und sehr vorhersehbar ab. Die “subtilen” Hinweise waren nicht ganz so subtil und ich war bis etwa zur Hälfte des Buches überhaupt nicht gefesselt.
Zwar waren die Charaktere alle super shady, was mir in einem Thriller immer gefällt, allerdings waren viele der negativen Eigenschaften für mich etwas zu überspitzt dargestellt. Leider kann ich euch jetzt nicht genau sagen, welche Situationen ich genau meine, aber wenn ihr es lest werdet ihr sicherlich wissen was ich meine.
Was mich dagegen wieder sehr überzeugt hatte, war das Ende. Ich übertreibe nicht, wenn ich sage, dass ich es ÜBERHAUPT nicht hab kommen sehen. Vor allem der Epilog hatte mich sehr überrascht.
Allgemein will ich nicht sagen, dass “Perfekt Woman” schlecht war, das war es auf keinen Fall, allerdings war es auch nicht besonders gut und wenn ich Thriller mit weiblichen Charakteren empfehlen würde, dann “Pretty Girls” von Karin Slaughter, “Gone Girl” von Gillian Flynn oder “The Girl on the Train” von Paula Hawkins.
Somit also 3 von 5 Sternen, da mich das letzte Drittel dann doch noch ein wenig überzeugen konnte.

I have to admit that it was mostly the German cover that drew me to this book. The German title “Perfect Woman” immediately reminded me of Gone Girl and if you know me then you know that that is one of my all time favourite books.
The premise was nothing new, but honestly it doesn’t always have to be if it is done well. A relaxing, casual thriller can be a nice thing too sometimes.
Sadly, I do have to say that those were mostly all the good things I can say about this book. The beginning was very slow, dragged on for quite a while and never really gripped me.
I do have to say that the characters were all super shady, which I always love in a thriller, but their negative features and big revelations kind of fell short in my opinion (I can’t tell you which ones exactly, but I’m sure you’ll know what I mean when you read this).
Thankfully the ending really pulled through, because I absolutely had no idea how this book would end and that is a big plus in my book. Especially the epilogue was really something.
Overall, I don’t want to say that The Herd was bad, it definitely wasn’t, but it was also not really that great. If I were to recommend a thriller with a female lead than it would be Pretty Girls by Karin Slaughter, Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn or The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins.
So 3 out of 5 stars from me, especially because the last third really made up for a lot.
